I am a woman of color living in America
an islander; not an African American,
so I don’t belong in that mislabeled group.
Unfortunately, every form of decency is fueled
by the race war. Keep the people divided.
I thought we were all free,
for the most part, not prisoners or slaves
in this new, brave world we believed could change
our train of thoughts on how we treat each other
But we’re now born into captivity,
slaves to society, we suffer for lack of knowledge.
Our minds are confused
and trapped behind those invisible bars
we cannot see; too hard to notice.
