Separate From The Crowd

I have a duty to self to serve and protect
this beautiful temple of mine
from outside intruders. I try to carry
myself separate from the masses.

What goes in and out of this mouth I can
control to a certain extent though I don’t always
do an expert job of biting my tongue
to fit other people’s narratives.

What I see with these eyes good or bad
does not excuse my sometimes
disruptive behavior; I don’t know what gets
into me; I act out when necessary, I choose
to follow the crowd or lead.

And what I hear with these ears 99% of it
does not need repeating. I, too,
have scattered many stories into the wind,
blowing inaccuracies into the wrong direction
unscathed by its side effects.
