The Forever Friend

He says he’s just a platonic friend
one minute, and the next second, this man
wants the keys to free weekly benefits,
that’s the best you’ll receive from him
no matter how convincing he appears. He’s told
you he loves you countless times but to
show how much he refuses to sacrifice.

Insecurity attaches you to him,
another vulnerable girl, you question your worth
based on his responses you accept
whatever scraps of leftover dry bones he throws
at you, thinking his trail of breadcrumbs love
carries enough self-esteem to make you happy.
