The past sometimes leaves
a funny aftertaste in my mouth;
there’s a colicky feeling,
more sadness than joy. I’m all cried out
and hungry for laughter.

I’ve spent my entire life trying
to please everyone in my way, I embraced
this impossible mission while fighting to maintain
my happiness, but I was on a roll
with stars in my eyes. And the only reward
I received from stroking egos was being
taken advantage of in the worst way
I set myself up for future disappointments.
