That Thing You Do

I try to get close to you
but you push me away
like something that upsets your stomach

it’s ok to communicate with small talk
but never anything too serious;
anything serious makes you sprint for months

and when you run,
you don’t usually look back
unless something draws you back

and you keep coming back
so I do my best not to chase you away;
I love when you stick around

cause when you’re gone,
you’re usually gone for a long time.
No communication, just a flat line.

Then one day, out of the blue,
you’ll show up at my front door
with flowers and an apology letter

I can never stay mad at you long enough to hold a grudge,
I’ll always take you back into my life,
unless you prove otherwise.
