Prisoner

The room I spent
my teenage years in
sometimes felt safe enough
to let my guard down
but more than anything,
it felt like I was a prisoner
locked up for some unknown crime
I was pretty sure I didn’t commit.

Dungeon Secrets

Decisions had to be made,
good or bad, she made
the best choices she could by herself.
She carried heavy loads on her shoulders,
her trust in God she didn’t have.
The outcome would’ve been different.

She has
her own stash
of secrets buried deep
in some dark underground dungeon
she rarely visits.
It was never her favorite place
to seek comfort each time she reflects
back to those tough times.

However, she does not want
the light to get there
before she does; she’s just not
ready for the truth
about her past to resurface.

Building Trust

Trust. When it’s gone,
it’s hard to gain back.
Building trust is not an overnight success story,
it takes time (months, years)
depending on the damage that was inflicted.
Lots of patience is needed for this journey.
